On December 9, TI released version 1.6 of the operating system for the TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS. Version 1.6 adds a "deep sleep" mode for longer battery life, new finance functions, a battery level indicator, and other miscellaneous updates.

Web-Based Calculator Emulator

Brandon Meyer has created TI8XEmu, a Flash-based (ActionScript) calculator emulator. Currently it supports the 82, 83, and 85. Visitors must upload their own ROM, which then runs in your web browser. In the future, Brandon plans to expand this to the 73, 86, and 89 as well.

Twenty Terabytes Transferred

Recently we have reached a new milestone in ticalc.org history: From April 1997 to December 2008, ticalc.org transferred 20 TB of data. While it took us seven years to transfer our first ten terabytes of data, we have now transferred another ten terabytes in only four years!

Because the printed collection (books) of the Library of Congress is estimated at 20 TB, we have now transferred one Library of Congress worth of calculator-related data. Congratulations to all of the people who have contributed to and visited ticalc.org for making this milestone possible!

2008 POTY Voting Opens

This year's POTY voting is now open. Go vote for your favorite 68k program. All programs featured in 2008 are eligible to win the ticalc.org Program of the Year award in their category. Since we only had two this year (the cutoff is December), the voting is even simpler than usual. The winner will be announced in January and will receive a special screenshot. You can find more information at the POTY webpage.

And yes, ticalc.org is thawing back to life. Look for more activity in 2009.
